I don’t do it for the attention of others or to try and impress anyone, you will all know by now that I couldn’t care less about the judgement of others! I do it for myself and my own well-being. It’s something that I enjoy and look forward to every session. So, if you’re thinking about starting a workout routine, just remember to do it for yourself and not anyone else. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did!

The more muscle you have = the higher your metabolism will be, meaning you’ll burn fat even when you are at rest. Weightlifting doesn’t have to be hard either – you can start low and build up as you go.  I think it’s an imperative to work out in the correct way so – either go online and watch a trainer or get a P.T for a few sessions if you’ve never been to the gym before, you don’t want to hurt yourself! Start slow and start with low weights!

3-5 times a week may seem like a lot, but it’s not that bad when you make it part of your routine. I like to work out in the afternoon to break up my work schedule. If you can’t make it to the gym that often, try doing some at-home workouts.

Lifting weights is amazing for toning your body and does not mean you are going to look bulky! I hate when I hear that as someone’s excuse, “oh I don’t work out because I’ll get big tree trunk legs” that’s completely false! You should work out to get rid of the fat around your gut. Visceral fat around your middle is the number one killer. So, get to lifting some weights and working on that healthy bod!

As you guys know I’m starring in my first feature film, where I play the role of a warrior goddess, so having the body for that character is important to me, not only as an actress but also a filmmaker. I want to be the part rather than just act it. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to get your body in shape for a role and whilst this is one of my drivers for being in shape, it’s not my only one. I want to keep living life as a healthy and physically fit/trim woman.

I work out with weights because I want to stay young and healthy. I know that as I age, my body will change, and I want to be able to keep up with my kids (or grandkids!) one day. I lift weights to tone my body and make sure that I’m strong enough to handle whatever comes my way. Going to the gym 3-5 times a week also helps me relieve stress and keeps me feeling good mentally as well as physically.

DO YOU EVEN LIFT?

I’ve always been athletic. I was a champion netball player, a champion swimmer (freestyle, relay, and backstroke) and a champion sprinter (100m, 200m, relay and hurdles). Though growing up I was never taught the proper way to lift weights for my desired goal – being trim, lean, strong, and toned. I did a lot of pump, Zumba and step classes. Which is really great for cardiovascular health but not as great for toning as lifting weights are.

I work out with weights because I want to stay young and healthy. I know that as I age, my body will change, and I want to be able to keep up with my kids (or grandkids!) one day.
